  • Kilimanjaro, The name itself is a mystery garlanded in clouds. It might mean Mountain of Light, Mountain of Greatness or Mountain of Caravans. Or it might not. The local people, the Wachagga, don't even have a name for the whole massif, only Kipoo (now known as Kibo) for the familiar snowy peak that stands imperious, overseer of the continent, and the summit of Africa. Not only is this the highest peak on the African continent; it is also the tallest free-standing mountain in the world, rising in breathtaking isolation from the surrounding coastal scrubland. Kilimanjaro is one of the world's most accessible high summits, a beacon for visitors from around the world. 1. UTC/GMT +3 hours 2. Google Map https://tinyurl.com/yafvc44f 3. Currency: TSH, Tanzanian shilling 4. Language: Swahili, English 5. Local Airport at Destination: JRO, Kilimanjaro International Airport, Kilimanjaro 6. Continent: Africa Landscape: The landscape on Kilimanjaro is very beautiful. The mountain can be divided into 5 climatic zones, each with its own fauna and flora. The lower reaches of the mountain are dominated by evergreen forests. The landscape becomes very arid and rocky. The fourth zone consists of very fine glacial scree / silt dessert setting. The top of Kilimanjaro is partially snow-capped with large glaciers interspersed between the volcanic craters. Attractions in Kilimanjaro: Snow-capped Kilimanjaro is one of the most famous and highest freestanding mountains in the world, rising from the north-eastern part of Tanzania. At the very base of the mountain, the local tribe, the WaChagga, have used their age-old farming method of zero-grazing to establish cultivated areas with coffee, maize, beans, sweet potato and bananas. Serengeti is the mother of all parks. The area is best known for its enormous herbivore migration, led by over a million zebra and wildebeest, a vast voracious lawnmower which in turn provides sustenance for a glut of predators. The Ngorongoro Highlands is a dramatic range of volcanic mountains that straddles the rift valley escarpment immediately to the south of the Serengeti. The main highlight is perhaps the most remarkable natural wonder in all Africa. the Ngorongoro Crater, where virtually the whole panoply of game can be seen year round. Lake Manyara is a relatively small but pretty national park sandwiched between the Rift Valley escarpment and the large sodiforous lake on the road to Ngorongoro and Serengeti. Tarangire is a good sized national park located just to the south of Lake Manyara in northern Tanzania. The main highlight is elephant, which mass here in enormous numbers during the dry season June to December. General game is also good, although predators tend to be quite difficult to find. What to do in Kilimanjaro: A stay at Mount Kilimanjaro View Lodge has something for everybody from the family with young children to the adventuresome traveler looking for a comfortable full-service home base. Many visitors prefer to remain close to the Lodge during their stay and simply relax. The beautiful setting against a lush green rain forest with spectacular views, a soothing hot water Jacuzzi pool close to completion, excellent authentic African food, the sound of waterfalls and active wildlife can satisfy most guests. Chagga Dancers and evening folklore add to the experience. Apart from usual known adventure Kilimanjaro climbing, there are a lot more to see in Mount Kilimanjaro. On western side of Kilimanjaro on lemosho route travelers can do 2 days or day trip for wildlife tours and game drives. In Mount Kilimanjaro there are natural waterfalls to see like Materuni waterfalls and Kinukamori waterfalls. Near or at these Kilimanjaro waterfalls, there are birds, monkeys and lots of wild animals. At slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro there are volcanic lakes like lake Chala and culture tour to explore Chagga tribe at slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro Where to stay in Kilimanjaro: There are several hotels and campsites outside the park in the village of Marangu and town of Moshi. There are Huts and campsites on the mountain for the Accommodation. There are very good accommodations in Mount Kilimanjaro National Park, Lake Manyara National park and Serengeti National Park.
